What, in a nutshell, do you do?
I am president of Advanced Telecom Services with offices in Philadelphia, Toronto, London, Dublin, Prague, and Bratislava. My involvement with the company is primarily with sales and marketing.
What has been your company’s greatest achievement to date?
Survival. When we started in 1989, there was no internet and virtually no cell phones. Through four decades, we’ve continued to offer interactive telemedia services to the same markets—media and advertising agencies. The only difference has been the medium from which those services have originated. The medium has moved from the landline phone to the internet and now to the cell phone.
Who, living or dead (famous or not) would you most like to have as an employee?
Other than my business partner of 21 years, Bret Dunlap, I’d have to say Ted Turner. Everybody laughed at him when he made such a huge investment in niche broadcasting and cable television, but he had an uncanny ability to foresee the future. As evidenced by his celebration after winning the America’s Cup, he knows how to party which would be fun around the office. He’s also an avid conservationist, as I am. And, marrying Jane Fonda was a pretty good move too.
What’s the greatest invention of the 21st Century so far?
I wish I could say it was premium SMS, but I can’t. So, therefore, I’ll say it is YouTube which was invented in 2005.
What technology — real or imaginary — would make the biggest difference to your working life?
Cloning experienced colleagues. None of us have any extra time.
Is the mobile content world too much aimed at men?
We are all going to go after the markets that exist and it just so happens that there are more male-oriented markets than female. Let’s face it; men aren’t as smart as women.
What’s your ringtone?
P.I.M.P. by 50 Cent. Since our company has done a lot of dating applications, I figure I’m kind of a glorified pimp.
Where are you off to now?
World Telemedia in Malta! Where else?.
